This is a quick blog post about a very important topic I want to share with you.
While going through MyDreamStore Campaigner Connect Facebook page, I saw that many people have spent Rs 3000-4000 in ads on a particular design without making significant sales.
Even I faced this problem many times. I make a design with all my heart, put lots of efforts in making it perfect, finding audiences and running ads. And sometimes when I launch it, I don’t get much sales as I expected.
Its common and happens with everyone. The reason being, we make the designs based on what we like or what we think people like. Which could be wrong many times. What we find very attractive, people might not find it to be that attractive.
Or while running ads, our targeting might be off or our audience don’t wear t-shirts. The reason could be anything for not making the sales.
But you know what is the most important lesson I have learned after launching more than 500 campaigns?
DON’T FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR DESIGN…
Trust me.. Since we put lots of efforts in making the design, running ads, targeting people and when we don’t get sales, we feel discouraged and we feel it must sell. I should spend some more money on it. And we keep spending money even if we are not getting sales in the hope of getting more sales soon.
But that is not the case. You should never ever ever fall in love with your design and try to make it work by spending more money.
I have made a rule of thumb for myself. And this strategy I follow for all my campaigns –
- I start with Rs 250-300 per day
- I keep the ad running for 2-3 days
- Closely monitor CTR, Clicks, Engagement, Shares, Comments
- See if people are liking the design? Are there comments? Clicks? Shares?
- If by the end of 3rd day, I don’t get any sale, I STOP THE AD
- I try something new – A new design or new targeting
This helps me saving lot of money.
See, initially when you are launching the ads, your aim is not to make money or increase sales. Initially for 4-5 days, your aim is to just test the design and see if people are loving it. That’s it…
And for this, never ever spend more than Rs 700-800 on a design. If you do not get sales within Rs 700-800 spend, you will not get it even after you spend Rs 10,000 (or if you get it, you will not be in Positive..)
So, summary – start with Rs 200-250 per day.. Test for 3 days… If no sales, kill the ad and move on. Try a new design or new targeting.
That’s how this business works. If you try very hard to make your design work and keep spending money on it, you will get into loss very quickly. This business is all about launching more and more designs and finding what works and eliminate what is not working. Cut your losses before they pile up. Never spend more than Rs 700-800 for testing no matter how awesome you feel your design is.
