$100,000 Profit in 6 Months Selling T-Shirts Online! My Print-on-demand journey..

making money online in India

"Hey man, let me know if there's any hope for us? Waiting.."
I sent the 1st SMS..

"Hey, how are you? Any update?  Looking forward.."
I sent the 2nd SMS..

And I waited..

I was waiting for a positive response from the Angel Investors.

The talks of funding have been going on for months.

I made so many excel sheets, gave tons of presentations. 1 year plan, 2 year projections, marketing plan... Day by day, I was getting frustrated and depressed.

** TING ** the phone rang,

and I read with trembling hands.

"Sorry Mubaid, we don't think there is much traction right now. Please get back to us after 6 months. Keep us posted. Good Luck."

** TING ** another SMS..

"Hey buddy, I'm afraid we'll have to pass on this opportunity for now. Good luck. Let's stay in touch."

My heart felt heavy.. I felt myself sinking..

I just wanted to smash the phone but it was one of the few good thing left with me. The lump in my throat made me unable to speak anything.

I fell on the bed.. Its Over. Its all over.. I am Done..

I'm tired of running after investors everyday to raise funding for my startup.

I have failed everyone? My parents, friends... myself?

I had no money left with me. Friends had been helping out for past couple of months. But the debts kept piling up.

Education loan (ahh.. the sweet gift of MBA), company loans, personal loans.

There is no other option for me than taking up a 9-5 job, which I hated.

But I had to pay the loans. I would shiver every time I get a call from the bank about the unpaid EMI.

After hours of sulking and crying (yes, I'm man enough to admit it), I opened up my laptop and types in Google, 'Resume formats to apply for jobs'

While it loads, I opened Facebook and I saw an ad -

'Create and Sell T-Shirts Without Any Inventory'

It was by a company names MyDreamStore. They are an online Print on Demand service in India similar to Teespring.

Bam! A light bulb lit in my head..

The only problem I was facing in my startup was lack of funding to print more inventory. What is this Print on demand model?

I got curious and starting researching on it.

Reading every single article, watching YouTube videos. I kept reading, kept watching until I understood the model completely.

.

.

.

Fast Forward to 8 Months Later..

Craaazyy right?

Yupp.. in just 8 months..

I was able to sell more than 30,000 t-shirts,

generating sales of more than $100,000 (INR 61,05,640)

Let me share in brief how I was able to achieve it.

~ FIRST DESIGN AND GETTING STARTED ~

Thought I had read many success stories with Teespring, I was scared to launch my first campaign and specially spend money in FB ads.

So I started with just $5 per day.

I chose MyDreamStore as my platform since I decided to start with Indian market.

Wanna see how my 1st design looked like?

Yupp..

Believe it or not, it was this simple.

I wanted the design to be scalable, so that I could modify and use for many other niches. And this quote was just perfect.

So, I started with something very simple. Clean text, clean design.

Most people make this mistake of making their designs too complex or crowded. But in my experience, the simplest designs sell the best.

And remember, I was just testing at this stage. I didn't know how the result will be.

I launched the campaign and waited.

And somehow, on the very first campaign, I started getting sales.

I was over the moon. It was working. Something was working.

So, I decided to change the design and launch another campaign targeting 'Engineers'

And... It flopped... Big Time...

Back to drawing board. I had to figure out how all this works.

I spent all my time reading articles, watching YouTube videos related to Facebook Ads and Teespring. Trying one thing after another. I became a machine. Obsessed with making this work anyhow.

Whenever I read or watch something, I would note it down and try to implement it in my campaigns. The more campaigns I launched the more lessons I learned.

Slowly, it started to make sense.

There are multiple elements of a successful campaign.

  1.  A Passionate and Profitable Niche
  2.  A Creative and Unique Design
  3.  Laser Targeting for Facebook Ads
  4.  Right Mindset

Pieces started falling into place.

And I got better and better with each failed campaign.

After another month of trial and error, I was able to generate a profit of $3000

It was good. Much better than nothing.

I built confidence. And I started sharing what I learned in different Facebook Groups.

~ GO BIG OR GO HOME ~

I believe in going big and taking huge risks.

So, now I knew the model works and I had learned quite a lot about Facebook Ads.

So, next, I typed in Google - List of Professions

And I started launching campaigns like crazy.

Everyday I would launch 5-6 new campaign and Ads for them.

Same design, same strategy, same mockup. Just changing the name of the profession.

Engineer, Fire fighter, Doctor, Guitarist, Mechanic, Nurse, Write, Teacher, Professor, Marketer, Consultant, Entrepreneur...

you name the profession and I launched a campaign for it..

I scaled the successful ones and killed the ones not making any sales.

I became obsessed. I did not leave my house for weeks.

It was like finding a golden hen. I would not sleep properly, I would not eat properly. Just launching campaigns one after another.

It was absolutely Insane. At a time I had 35-40 campaigns running simultaneously.

More than 70-80 Facebook Ads running at the same time.

All alone. I was the designer, I was the marketer and I was the accountant.

I gained tremendous knowledge about Facebook Ads.

I kept a target of making $100 per day profit, which was achieved very soon.

I increased my target to $200 per day.. which was again met very soon.

Slowly, I kept increasing my goal..

I increased my target to hit $2000 per day.

It was the most craziest target to achieve but I was able to achieve that as well.

During this period, MyDreamStore launched a contest on who can sell the most t-shirts in a period of 7 days..

And I ended up being the 1st winner selling 2741 t-shirts in just 7 days.

Here's my growth trajectory in terms of sales.

October - $3000+

November - $14,000+

December - $15,000+

January - $17,000+

~ SHARING THE LEARNING ~

I kept sharing whatever I was learning in different groups and people started asking of lot of questions in email and messages.

I decided to write blogs on it and hence this blog was formed.

People implemented my strategies and getting amazing results.

I am so humbled and happy to see a lot of people quite their 9-5 and started their online businesses.

Due to huge demand, I went on to launch my coaching program -
TShirt Profit Academywhich helps anyone start their successful online t-shirts business using just the laptop and internet.

I am so happy that this program has changed lives of more than 500 students. And hundreds of positive testimonials.

~ THE LEARNINGS ~

Here are few of my learnings after launching thousands of campaigns online.

  • Its not a Get Rich Quick Scheme - Though it can make a lot of money very fast, you have to treat it as an actual business with expenses and revenue. You have to spend time in growing it. And be willing to always be learning.

  • Never Stop Learning - Most online businesses these days are totally dependent on Digital marketing like Facebook Ads. The thing is, its constantly changing. So if you are not ready to adapt or learn new things, you will be left behind.

  • Try Try Try and Try some more - This business is all about trying different campaigns, different niche and different designs. You might hit your successful campaign in the first try or you might fail 10 times before hitting a successful campaign. And its totally normal. All the top campaigners have faced this. One winning campaign can make up so money that it covers all other failed ones.

  • Find a Good Mentor - I spent a lot of time learning on my own and spent a lot of money in testing different things. You don't have to. Its a long process. These days its best to get into a good coaching program and find a genuine mentor so that you can shorten your learning time and start launching campaign as quickly as possible.

Hi Mubaid,

It is an inspiring story, to start this do we need to have some sort of designing skills, please guide me how should I start if I have no knowledge of t-shirt designing.
Looking forward for your response. Thanks!

Designing is not the most important requirement to get started with this model.
The simplest of designs sell well on MyDreamStore. You can hire a freelancer or outsource your designs as well.

I want to know is there any way to update my previous design on mydreamstore. As sometimes we want to make a slight change in our design just after launching it.

I don’t think there is any facility to update a design once its posted. You have to create a new one only.

Hey Mubaid,

Your indeed very helpful and a very honest person as i can sense it via your videos and blog posts..

My issue is : Mydreamstore does not allow new members to create tees anymore, they want super sellers now !! How to become a super-seller if they themselves do not allow new members to create ads and test the platform, they tell you to click on a link to check if your eligible to sell tshirts but hey I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO SELL TSHIRTS TO BEGIN WITH because I just created a new account lol. I literally had everything ready just when I thought of making new designs Mydreamstore stopped taking in new publishers like me..

Anyways Mubaid I’m a fb marketer myself I’m in need of a company apart from teespring, as using teespring I can only target non-Indians and I want to cater to the Indian crowd, do you have any other company that I can use to create and sell tshirts mate.

I’m tired of sending emails to Mydreamstore with same copy pasted response to be honest.
